Tony Kaldas

Tony studied at the French School (Collège des Frères) in Cairo, then graduating with BA in Architectural Engineering at Cairo Academy College. In the mean time, he studied music and opera singing with the Soprano Dr.Taheya Shams el din starting from 2003 to 2006 at the Opera house continued by the Soprano Dr.Iman Mustafa from 2006 to 2009. He played Violin for 2 years during his adolescence and after that he motivated to play Guitar and participated in many religious choirs from age 15 followed by singing for 3 years of being a member in the tenor voice in Cairo Celebration Choir at The Opera House conducted by the Egyptian Maestro/ Nayer Nagui from 2001 to 2003.

Tony’s singing ability surprised many people surrounding him, starting from his family, when he decided to sing solo in his Sixteen’s in French language. As he wasn’t interested in singing before that time, but he had the artistic tendency to show up by imitating artists and acting after watching every single movie since he was 4 years old.

According to what he is always saying, Tony sees the time before sixteen was a preparation time and actually a great opportunity for ear training to be manifested later than in singing.

He got an exceptional outstanding gift of interpreting different styles of music by his voice like Jazz, Classic, Oriental, Pop, Funk, Blues and other various styles

And in different languages as well like English, Arabic, French, Greek, Italian, Spanish and other accents and languages besides his wide voice register which is about 4 Octaves and Half makes him capable to reach the very high notes in the whistle octave returning back to his Baritenor voice. (Very rare voice type)

Starting from the end of 2006, he started to perform his first concert in French, appreciating the famous French singer Charles Aznavour singing for him twenty-eight of his best songs, then moved to Arabic traditional songs covering Um Kalthoum, Asmahan, Abd el Halim, Abd el Wahab, Farid el Atrash in his own approach.

Asmahan, the Syrian singer who could sing almost everything was a big inspiration for Tony since he was nine years old; she was his favorite singer at that time which was odd that a child listens to an old music, bearing in mind that she died forty years before his birth. When he decided to sing, he actually work from this old inspiration and chose to study Opera singing because he read before in one of the books that she studied opera singing from a teacher which helped her to learn and master her voice, and her talent to use the technique to make it work in any singing style.

Tony sang covering many songs for various singers worldwide like Nat king cole, Fran Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, Edith Piaf, Enrico Macias, Julio Iglesias, Giannis Parios, Fairuz, Etta James, others. He also sang couple of Opera Arias includes La Traviata, L’elisir d’amour, Tosca, Aria Antiche, Shubert, Bach, etc…

His Originals started on 2007, when he was asked to write a song for the Lebanese singer Majida el roumy expressing the love of her fans, but it was asked very late from him, so he wrote the lyrics in Arabic and merge in italian music (love in portofino), and sang it with his voice and presented to her as a gift for her birthday from all her fans and the title of the song was ” Star from other stars in heaven” Negma men negoum el sama.

In 2008, he did a unique celebration commemorating the international late lebanese poet “Gibran Khalil Gibran” by a big concert singing for him and released 2 new songs. Both songs were in Arabic, composed and sang by Tony, Which was the first time to compose a song and having the experience of change the kind of music the audience always use to listen for any Gibran text. The first one was ” You are my brother” anta akhy, discussing the religious tolerance between all faiths, and the second one was a discussion between the person and his soul ” My soul” ya nafssy. The new thing that the first one has a latin oriental rhythm in the mix and the second one was performed in jazz.

in 2010, Tony released two new songs, the first one celebrating 70 years for the most international song “Besame mucho” and took it with a different arrangement by Amro Salah in a different style “Oriental Latin Jazz” and with Arabic lyrics by Montasser Hegazy. The song expected to be a hit on 2011. For the other song, Tony chose a text from the late Egyptian Poet “Salah Jaheen” and composed it in a different and classical way with the piano “Slow music” mazzika hadya
