"Our first promise was to give Tribe members exposure and fun new ways to connect with each other and with businesses. Now it's time to add more revenue streams."
Tribe of Noise is a community of thousands of independent artists around the globe. Tribe of Noise's mission is to empower artists to secure music deals worldwide using our tools, business network and our community. We believe that non-exclusive and transparent business models are crucial for the future of the music industry.
The purpose of this contract is to set forth the terms and conditions for Tribe of Noise's worldwide non-exclusive exploitation and sub licensing right of the tracks, master recordings and derivatives as agreed upon by the artist.
Our promise to you
- non-exclusive exploitation contract meaning you keep your rights but license one or some songs (non exclusive) to us so we can go out there to generate money
- no cure no pay; you don't pay us anything now but we split any revenue we make in the future
- to improve your chances with large companies as part of the Tribe collective. If multiple Tribe members license a few songs we can bundle them in catalogs for all kinds of purposes and sell or sub license them to serious large companies (film, gaming, TV series, mobile applications, documentaries etc.) which are difficult to approach as individual emerging artist.
How to participate
- Download the contract, read it carefully, fill in the blanks, sign it and send it back to us by fax or email. Contact details are in the contract.
- Upload the high quality (WAV, AIF) music files you are licensing as stated in the contract. Upload here
As soon as we have received a signed version of your contract and the high quality music file(s) we will contact you to confirm your participation.

FAQs
I have already uploaded songs on Tribe of Noise. How is this different?
The songs you have already uploaded on Tribe of Noise are licensed under the Creative Commons 4.0 By Share Alike license and our terms of use. The legal and technical (MP3 file format) conditions are perfect for sharing music with other musicians, participating in online contests, in-store music services and connecting you with business professionals.
In cases where high quality WAV/AIF files are needed and/or more specific legal terms are set by our clients we could only move forward after consulting the individual Tribe member(s) which took up too much time. The signed non-exclusive exploitation contracts and the high quality music files on our servers enable us to act immediately, close the deal and generate revenue.
How much money can I make?
See article 4 in the non exclusive exploitation contract. After the payment of taxes and a 15% handling fee (credit card costs, operational and administrative costs) the revenue is split 50/50 with the artist.
Example revenue fair share for artist:
100 Euro (ex. VAT) revenue - 15% = 85 Euro x 50% = 42,50 Euro (inc. VAT) paid to the artist
Do I need to own all rights to participate? Master owner, copyright owner, etc.
Yes, please read article 2.2 of the contract carefully. We don't want you to run into any copyright infringements and we highly respect the rights of individual artists and other rights holders. If you have any doubts feel free to contact us. We also encourage you to seek legal advice if any of the mentioned terms are unclear or when you are unsure if you are entitled to sign this contract.
The more Tribe of Noise grows as a collective the more business opportunities will arise for me? How so?
It's all about facilitating multiple markets at the same time. If a large group of Tribe members license a few songs through our non-exclusive exploitation contract we can bundle them in catalogs for all kinds of purposes (film, gaming, tv series, mobile applications, documentaries etc.) and sell them or sub license them to serious big companies (companies not dealing with individual emerging artists at the moment)
After participating in the non-exclusive exploitation contract can I still upload songs on Tribe of Noise the usual way (MP3 files under the Creative Commons license)?
Of course! Feel free to do both.
- Start here to upload as many MP3 songs as you want on Tribe of Noise to share with others, participate in our contests and in-store music opportunities.
- Start here to sign the non-exclusive exploitation contract and send in the high quality WAV/AIF files so we can go out there trying to generate more revenue
Why do you want me to sign a non-exclusive contract?
To be quite honest it's simple logistics. If a company contacts us because they are looking for 1 or multiple songs and we have to contact you all it takes up too much time.
If it is a advertisement company the time pressure lies in the deadline, they like this song and want to strike a deal now!
If it is a company that wants to add a playlist to their website we have to connect with a dozen of artists and that takes up to much time as well.
Pre-clearing your content adds value to your music. And while not the sexiest of reasons, it will help to generate money, get noticed and get heard!
How can I benefit from a non-exclusive deal?
Instead of waiting for that one exceptional deal we offer you the chance of making some money and still have the freedom to pursue other deals with the same songs.
We think the benefits of non-exclusive are:
- You keep your options more open
- Your music can be part of multiple deals
- You can license your music to multiple parties
Can you guarantee me revenue?
No we can not. We do not promote individual artists, we promote music and the best fit for the requests we get. So sometimes a game developer wants roaring guitars, sometimes a shop wants Asian lounge music and we're always in need for pop and easy-to-listen-to-while-you-shop-music. But there is nothing more individual then the likes and dislikes in music, even in the commercial arena. So no promises, but at the same time we do not ask for exclusivity so you can pursue multiple ways to generate revenue.
If I make money with this, do I have to pay income tax?
See article 5.2 of the contract: "The ARTIST assumes the tax consequences of sums he/she receives, which will be taxable according to the legislation applicable in his/her country, and the ARTIST guarantees Tribe of Noise against, and holds it harmless from, any legal action in that regard."
